Static Browser Content Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the language in which web pages are written. For example, this website is written in HTML.It is not a programming language but instead consists of a set of rules or "tags" which are used to define the layout of information. When a link is clicked on a web page, a message is sent to a web server requesting another page. The server then either retrieves an existing HTML file or generates one using ASP or a CGI program. This file is sent back to the browser where the HTML tags are used to layout the content of the page. Therefore development of any web-based application requires knowledge of HTML. HTML has been developed and expanded over the years to make it more interactive (Dynamic HTML, JavaScript, VBScript) and to allow the inclusion of executable content (JAVA applets).
