PRESS RELEASE – 25th November 2002

NHS MOTOR FLEET CONTRACT BRINGS NEW TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGES

Brian Johnson Insurance Brokers launch the new enhanced version of their existing claims system ‘CARISMA’ this week. The system, originally developed in-house has been re-written in Visual Basic by Whitespace Software Limited in response to the requirements arising from the  NHS National Contract. Brian Johnston are to provide in depth risk analysis and enhanced reports. Not only does the system have to provide analytical reports for all Trusts and Special Health Authorities but it must also show how claims are being made and with what frequency.

'CARISMA' is planned to serve as the hub of a multi-location system covering Brian Johnston’s associated accident management and uninsured loss recovery operations. Further enhancements will allow for electronic data interchange with Brian Johnston’s partner Royal & Sun Alliance.

“The system is designed to provide firstly an effective, dependable system for handling Brian Johnston’s existing business practices and secondly to provide a solid foundation for future business requirements including the planned multi-location system. We had to meet these demands within a tight budget.” explained Mike Minns, Project Manager.

For Brian Johnston, the system will save them time and money by reducing the time spent keying in claims details. The new user-interface gives an improved layout to data entry screens, providing a closer match with the paper claims forms that Brian Johnston receive, so speeding their input.  Alterations to the underlying database have improved the integrity of the data and removed unnecessary duplication.  The number of unnecessary phone calls are also set to reduce as the central system can now be accessed directly by all staff. The introduction of electronic data exchange between Brian Johnston, the associated offices and R & SA will further improve business practice by reducing the need for unnecessary phone calls between sites.

“What is refreshing about this project is that the user has been in charge of the whole operation, choosing which areas of the system to upgrade and doing so within their own timetable. Bespoke software does not have to be expensive or time consuming if done in this way.” Peter Gray, Managing Director of Brian Johnston Insurance Brokers.
