1.Programmer with experience of C++ for Whitespace Software Limited

 

Whitespace Software Limited has an immediate vacancy for a programmer with at least 1 year commercial experience of programming in C/C++. The selected applicant will work with an established team of programmers and an account manager on this expanding account. The systems are for household insurance and have been built entirely in-house. They are built using our own in-house .dat database with C++. There is also web access to the system for Agents, which is built using CGI and HTML.

 

We are looking for someone with fluency in C/C++ to join this team and assist in its development with a view to taking on a more responsible role in the future. You would expect to work very closely with the account manager.

 

This is a permanent position at Whitespace.  We are a company of 20 people and enjoy good benefits and typically a 35-40 hour working week.

 

Job Description

·         Responsible for developing software to meet customer requirements in line with goals agreed with the Account manager.

·         Responsible for building own understanding of client requirements by attending internal and external meetings as required, reading appropriate bulletins and papers, working closely with colleagues.

·         Produce software in line with team goals and alerting the account manager of any problems which arise.

·         Liaise with clients about requirements and propose solutions internally.

·         Participate in support service for the system.

·         Present and explain software changes to clients.

·         Write technical documentation to support software.

 

Terms and Conditions

·         Report to account manager.

·         All posts at Whitespace are administratively self-servicing, individuals setting up their own meetings, making their own telephone calls and writing up minutes of meetings, e-mails and letters as appropriate.

·         Salary in range of £19,000-£22,000 depending on experience.

·         Pension 6-10% employer’s contribution on payment by employee of 3-5% of salary after 3 months service.

·         Annual bonus based on annual profit, length of service with company and salary.

·         Holidays 20 days rising to 25 days after 3 years service.

 

Person Specification

Essential

·         1+ years commercial experience of programming in C++ (non-visual).

·         Experience of working with Database concepts (preferably ISAM).

·         Experience of working in a team of programmers and support analysts.

·         Good interpersonal skills.

·         Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.

 

Desirable

·         Knowledge of Unix.

·         Understanding of insurance markets.

·         An understanding of full software development cycle.

·         Experience of client liaison and support.

·         Potential to lead small projects.

Whitespace Software Limited has an immediate vacancy for a programmer with at least 1 year commercial experience of programming in Visual Basic. The selected applicant will work with an established team of programmers, support analysts and an account manager on the SCHEMATIC Insurance Brokers system. The system has been built entirely in-house using Visual Basic as the programming language and SQL Server as the database. We are looking for someone with fluency in Visual Basic to join this team and assist in its support and development with a view to taking on a more responsible role in the future.
