Marine Underwriting System

One of our clients is a large U.S. based insurance company. Its many activities include a specialist, London-based underwriting operation. Unfortunately, this operation's information was in a separate, incompatible database, and group statistics therefore had to be compiled manually.

Whitespace was asked to provide a Windows application which would be identical to the underwriting operation's existing system, but with the data stored in the group's SQL server databases.

The system was developed in three months using Visual Basic. The users took this opportunity to improve the previous system, selecting a distinctive look and asking for closer integration with Microsoft Word and Excel.

Whitespace project managers planned the installation carefully to avoid any disruption to the daily activities of the underwriting team. This included the entire project team spending two days with the client, checking that the handover was perfect and adding the required improvements.
